Summary

To help provide for and insure the security and protection of all students and staff, while crossing the streets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist children in crossing streets on the way to and from school at assigned times and locations.
  • Attempt to cross all pedestrians including non-students as required by law.
  • Interact with children, staff and community members on a positive basis.
  • Place and remove speed signs and report maintenance needs when required.
  • Learn and follow state law and adopted procedures regarding the operation of school crossings.
  • Protect safety of children at all times while on duty.
  • Report student safety infractions.
  • Report license numbers of vehicles violating safety regulations.
  • Monitor and report infractions of state laws regarding school zones.
  • Have and maintain district supplied equipment.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Maintain reasonable awareness of pedestrian, vehicular, and other traffic in all directions.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Education and Certification
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
Licensing and Certifications
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
Knowledge of
  • Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work.

  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.

Ada and Other Requirements

Positions in this class require pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 17 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires regular holding a stop paddle at or above shoulder level when crossing pedestrians.

Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed outdoors including exposure to noise and being on your feet. Required to maintain reasonable awareness of pedestrian, vehicular, and other traffic in all directions. Requires standing in inclement weather including summer heat.
