Terus Construction is an integrated road construction and materials manufacturing company that has been building roads in British Columbia and the Yukon Territory for over 30 years through decentralized business centers. Road construction, asphalt paving, aggregate production, hot mix asphalt and ready‑mix concrete supply are the core activities. In addition, the company acts as general contractor on civil construction projects, including excavation, utilities, concrete placement, sidewalks and curbs, and other road construction related activities.

Over 800 jobs are performed every year through more than 20 decentralized business centers, such as highway rehabilitation, airport construction, industrial, municipal and commercial work, and subdivisions. More than 550 employees are locally employed.

About the Role

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking a General Accountant in Surrey, BC. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the accountant will support the Finance department and work closely with the Head Office Accounting Team to ensure all transactions are handled timely and professionally. The accountant will manage highly confidential information in compliance with local privacy legislation and company policy.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Senior Accountant to process transactions as directed.
  • Assist in preparation of the monthly financial close, reporting, and general ledger reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and submit weekly reports as needed.
  • Assist with monthly and year‑end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications.
  • Analyze and post accounting transactions into the accounting system as directed.
  • Demonstrate advanced Microsoft Excel skills; responsible for maintaining various Excel spreadsheets, including updating and validating information as directed.
  • Ensure a solid understanding of and compliance with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Maintain detailed supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items and variances.
  • Ensure reconciliations meet corporate and audit standards and assist with audit inquiries and corporate requests.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as required.
Qualifications
  • 2–4 years of corporate or head‑office accounting experience.
  • Enrollment in the CPA program (preferred).
Technical Knowledge
  • Proven accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial and cost accounting principles.
  • Advanced Excel skill and competency in MS Office and software systems in a manufacturing environment.

Working Conditions
  • Overtime as required.
  • Work is performed indoors and may include a combination of standing, sitting, and walking. Extended periods of sitting are required.

The anticipated hourly wage for this position is a minimum of $30 per hour (CAD). The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
