Position: Project Manager New BC

Forbes Bros. Group of Companies delivers transmission, distribution, substation, and related power infrastructure projects across Canada and the United States.

Our work spans field construction, project delivery, operations, and corporate support in an environment where safety, execution, and reliability matter.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Manager is an early-career leadership role for individuals ready to take ownership of defined scopes on active utility construction projects. Typical work includes overhead distribution builds, brownfield substation upgrades, and localized transmission construction.

This role is suited to professionals with strong coordination experience and a practical understanding of how work is executed in the field—whether gained through utility, civil infrastructure, or industrial construction settings. PM3s oversee day-to-day execution, lead subcontractors and crews, and ensure work is delivered safely, to spec, and on schedule.

Success requires sound planning, site presence, and the ability to work cross-functionally with field, office, and client teams to drive execution and resolve issues.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Planning & Execution Oversight

  • Develop work plans, short-term schedules, and construction sequences for assigned scopes.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, equipment mobilization, and material delivery to meet field execution plans.
  • Monitor daily and weekly progress to ensure alignment with design specifications and project milestones.
  • Lead job start-ups, daily huddles, and workface planning sessions with field leadership.

Quality & Compliance Integration

  • Ensure required checklists, redlines, and inspections are completed and submitted accurately.
  • Confirm that work aligns with client specifications, utility standards, and approved procedures.
  • Support field teams in documentation handoff, issue resolution, and closeout activities.

Commercial Management & Cost Tracking

  • Track costs, quantities, and productivity using internal reporting tools.
  • Review and validate unit-based progress (e.g., structures completed, conductor installed).
  • Document scope changes and assist in preparing supporting material for change orders.
  • Identify emerging risks and elevate delays or field issues promptly.

Safety Leadership & Field Stewardship

  • Model safe work practices and lead discussions in daily tailboards and hazard assessments.
  • Ensure timely submission of FLRAs, permits, incident reports, and safety documentation.
  • Participate in site audits and support safety improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with safety representatives to reinforce expectations and resolve issues on site.

Stakeholder & Team Coordination

  • Act as the primary point of contact for defined scopes with clients, subcontractors, and inspectors.
  • Coordinate with procurement, quality, safety, and engineering to align resources and resolve conflicts.
  • Contribute to project updates, internal reviews, and external progress meetings.

Closeout & Continuous Improvement Project Closeout

  • Coordinate turnover documentation including redlines, test reports, and completion certificates.
  • Participate in demobilization planning, lessons-learned sessions, and internal improvement feedback loops.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • 3–5 years of project coordination or field-based project management experience, ideally within utility, infrastructure, or construction environments.
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, scopes of work, and contract deliverables.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage competing tasks in fast-paced field settings.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Excel, and project tracking software (e.g., Procore, Site Docs).
  • Understanding of quality assurance principles and field-level safety practices.
  • Diploma or degree in construction…
