FACULTY OVERVIEW:The name ‘Kwantlen’ comes from the Kwantlen First Nation in whose traditional territory the university is located. The word 'Kwantlen' means Tireless Runner and is reflected in the university's motto: "through tireless effort, knowledge, and understanding." Chief Joe Gabriel of the Kwantlen First Nation bestowed the name on the institution, resulting in Kwantlen First Nation and Kwantlen Polytechnic University having a long history of partnership.

The Department of Creative Writing offers a B.A. Major and a Minor in Creative Writing. Our small class sizes range from 15-25 students, and we embrace diversity, inclusion, and active learning in our classrooms. Our faculty members have a passion for teaching, a focus on transformative learning, and a commitment to student success.
POSITION OVERVIEW:The Department of Creative Writing at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for one 50% one-year NR2 contract for Creative Writing, especially in the areas of fiction and screenwriting. Creative nonfiction, new media, and/or poetry are also an asset.
- Experience publishing/producing and teaching in multiple genres will be an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS:- Candidates may have a Masters of Fine Arts or PhD in Creative Writing or a masters or doctoral degree in a related/relevant discipline with an emphasis on creative practice.
- Equivalent professional OR community experience.
- Equivalent combination of academic, professional, and/or community experience.
- For the academic route for qualification (entirely or partially), academic degree(s) grounded in contemporary creative writing/ fine arts/media pedagogy with an emphasis on decolonial, interdisciplinary, and process-based inquiry are valued.
- For the professional route for qualification, both emerging or established public profiles are considered valuable with engagement in publication, exhibition, and/or production preferred. Qualifications in these areas may be considered equivalent to academic qualifications and also an asset to academic qualifications.
- For the community-based route for qualification, practices that may be considered as equivalent to academic and professional experiences may include but are not limited to: writing; editing; teaching; community organizing; and publishing and producing events and works in the fields of creative writing, fine arts, performance, or media. Leadership with an emphasis on community engagement, the facilitation of arts-related healing initiatives, decolonial practices, and socio-ecological connectedness will be considered strengths.
- Experience applying student‑centered pedagogies that include participatory, equity‑seeking and decolonial approaches to teaching are highly valued. These experiences can be from varied communities and contexts.
