Instructional Designer

The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

The Instructional Designer iin this role will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex training materials, curricula, and technical documentation for technical, trades, utility, and engineering environments. This role conducts formal training needs assessments, applies adult education principles and the ADDIE model, and collaborates extensively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to translate operational requirements into effective instructor-led, virtual, and web-based learning solutions.

Major

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Curriculum & Needs Assessment: Develop competency profile charts, course/program outlines, curricula, and complex training modules based on formal training needs assessments conducted with clients.
  • Instructional Design & Content Creation: Design learning tasks, write and sequence performance objectives, develop performance measures following adult education principles, and integrate multi-modal delivery techniques (in-person, virtual instructor-led, and web-based).
  • Adult Learning & Standards: Apply current adult learning concepts (experiential teaching, accelerated learning, interactive delivery) and establish standardized curricula formats, templates, and facilitator guides.

    Collaboration:

    Liaise with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Technical Trades Trainers to structure lessons, write and edit technical documentation, and ensure accuracy, logic, clarity, and relevance for technical audiences.
  • Digital & Web Assets: Prepare, maintain, and update training websites, instructional videos, and digital learning assets; adapt current curricula to alternative delivery channels.
  • Leadership & Guidance: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members (such as Instructional Designer
    1) on the application of adult learning principles and digital asset production.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Methodologies: Strong knowledge and practical application of adult learning principles and the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) model.
  • Design Capabilities: Proven ability to develop competency profile charts, course outlines, training modules, and technical documentation from learning objectives.
  • Assessment: Good knowledge of evaluation and assessment methodologies, performance objectives, and performance metrics.
  • Technical & Software Proficiency: Advanced MS Office skills (particularly working with styles in MS Word and MS PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline.
  • Communication & Coordination: Excellent organization, coordination, and interpersonal skills; advanced English communication skills (written, spoken, facilitating, and group presentations).
  • Physical Capability: Physical ability to carry out all required job duties.
Qualifications
  • A minimum (4) years of instructional designer support work experience or equivalent (6 years experience if applicant has no bachelor’s degree but does have a certificate/diploma in adult education).
  • Demonstrated experience developing curricula, course outlines, training modules, facilitator guides, and technical documentation.
  • Experience conducting formal training needs assessments and translating findings into actionable learning solutions.
  • Experience designing instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, and/or web-based training content, as well as adapting classroom training to blended learning models.
  • Experience supporting technical, trades, utility, engineering, or operational training environments.
