Western Community College has been a pioneer in delivering healthcare education programs across British Columbia. We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Medical Lab Assistant Practicum Coordinator to support the successful delivery of our Medical Laboratory Assistant program.

The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating program and practicum activities, supporting students and instructors, monitoring student progress and practicum readiness, and ensuring program requirements and learning outcomes are successfully achieved. This position is ideal for a healthcare professional with strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills who is passionate about supporting the next generation of Medical Laboratory Assistants.

Medical Lab Assistant Practicum Coordinator

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the overall academic and operational delivery of the MLA program.
  • Collaborate with instructors and college departments to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Ensure curriculum, assessments, laboratory activities, and practicum experiences meet established program standards and learning outcomes.
  • Monitor student academic progress, attendance, and practicum readiness and address concerns as required.
  • Support the recruitment, orientation, scheduling, and ongoing guidance of MLA instructors.
  • Coordinate laboratory requirements, including equipment, supplies, safety procedures, and instructional resources.
  • Collaborate with the Practicum/Employment Coordinator to support student placements and practicum requirements.
  • Maintain accurate program records, documentation, schedules, and reports.
  • Participate in curriculum reviews, program evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and applicable MLA program requirements.
  • Participate in advisory committee meetings and relevant industry or professional meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Programs or senior management.
Qualifications

For teaching Laboratory Sections:

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in good standing with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), with demonstrated experience working in a laboratory setting at least 2 years of recent work experience in the field, preferably with teaching experience.

Schedule:

25-30 hours per week
