Position Summary
The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, specification, and support of control systems used in controlled environments (Greenhouses and Controlled Environment Rooms). This role translates project requirements into electrical designs, reviews and approves schematics and Bills of Materials, and validates designs through testing and risk assessment. The Controls Engineer collaborates with cross‑functional teams to support manufacturing, installation, and service while driving standardization in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.

Winnipeg, Canada (Remote will be considered)
- Design and release control systems for controlled environment products, including drawings, schematics, and Bills of Materials.
- Configure software to control Greenhouses and Controlled Environment Rooms.
- Document control sequence of operations used for each project.
- Translate project requirements into engineering specifications.
- Support manufacturing, supply chain, quality, installation, service, and commissioning teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate with R&D on design changes to improve product performance, standardize products, reduce material cost, and comply with industry regulations.
- Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to improve product design.
- Provide support to Installation, Commissioning, and Service teams to troubleshoot and root cause control systems in the field.
- Review, evaluate, and approve designs to ensure quality, compliance, and on‑time delivery.
- Conduct engineering risk assessments when appropriate and make recommendations to leadership.
- B.Sc. or Diploma in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering/Technology.
- 10+ years of experience in Control System Design or related field.
- Experience designing low voltage and high voltage systems up to 600V and three‑phase applications.
- Experience with PLC‑based automatic control systems using sensor feedback and set‑point driven logic.
- Strong knowledge of PLC/DDC systems, electrical controls, and communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.).
- Experience with BOMs, ERP systems, and engineering change processes.
- Understanding of industry standards (UL, CE).
- Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- 2+ years of experience in HVAC electrical design and development.
