Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager to join our team in British Columbia. This role is central to our specialized environmental services division, focusing on large-scale contaminated site management, soil remediation, and complex hazardous waste disposal projects. You will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of environmental projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and in strict accordance with BC’s rigorous environmental and hazardous waste regulations.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Project Oversight:
Manage the full lifecycle of environmental projects, including contaminated site excavation, soil treatment, and hazardous waste disposal. - Strategic Planning:
Develop comprehensive project plans, including budget forecasting, resource allocation, and timeline management. - Regulatory Compliance:
Act as the internal Subject Matter Expert on the BC Environmental Management Act (EMA), the Contaminated Sites Regulation (CSR), and the Hazardous Waste Regulation (HWR). - Technical Reporting:
Oversee the preparation and submission of Soil Relocation Notifications, Site Disclosure Statements, and Summary of Site Condition forms. - Stakeholder Management:
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, environmental consultants, and regulatory bodies (ENV). - Waste Logistics:
Coordinate the transport and disposal of contaminated materials to approved GFL facilities or third‑party sites, ensuring all manifesting and transport requirements meet HWR standards. - Health & Safety:
Maintain GFL’s industry‑leading safety standards, ensuring all field staff and subcontractors adhere to site‑specific safety plans and local protocols. - Other duties as required.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in the BC environmental industry, with specific focus on soil remediation and hazardous waste management.
- Extensive, up-to-date knowledge of BC’s CSR and Hazardous Waste Regulations.
- Familiarity with the latest amendments to Protocol 19 (Soil Relocation) and Protocol 12 (Site Risk Classification).
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
- Deep understanding of BC soil classifications, waste discharge authorizations, and remediation technologies.
- Proven track record of managing projects exceeding $1M in scope.
- PMP designation or professional status (P.Eng., P.Geo., R.P.Bio., or P.Ag.) is considered a strong asset.
- Construction or infrastructure experience is considered a strong asset.
- Exceptional negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory hurdles and provide clear guidance to clients.
