ABOUT EXCELSENSE TECHNOLOGIES:
At Excelsense, we are rewriting the rules of industrial surveillance. Heavy industries like mining, agriculture, and construction face massive downtime and safety hazards simply because cameras and sensors get dirty. We solve this with our patented Clearsight™ technology—the world’s leading family of self-cleaning, fully self-sufficient optical systems.
As global industries rapidly shift toward autonomous vehicles and automated processes, the demand for our technology is exploding. We are bringing 21st-century innovation to rugged environments, and we are looking for builders, thinkers, and innovators to help us design, scale, and network the future of industrial sensor fusion.
Our core technology is proven—now, we need a versatile Mid-Level Mechanical / Industrial Design Engineer to help us scale, adapt, and optimize it. In this role, you will take our patented Clearsight™ foundation and iterate on new form factors, optimize components for DFM (Design for Manufacturing), and improve ruggedized enclosures. You’ll have a direct hand in shaping the look, feel, and rugged reliability of the next generation of autonomous industrial sensors.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Execute rapid evaluation of engineering concepts in a wide range of fields, with an emphasis on mechanical design.
- Own hardware design from initial requirements through hand off to low-rate production.
- Assist technical efforts to define requirements, propose possible solutions, and establish a methodology for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems.
- Perform hand calculations and FEA to develop, assess, and optimize designs.
- Build and test prototypes, analyze failures, execute hardware test plans, and transition successful projects towards production.
- Work on designs that involve the tight integration of complex thermal solutions, electro-mechanical hardware, PCBAs, and cabling/harnessing.
- Support critical customer facing hardware demonstrations and use these interactions to better understand the customers’ requirements.
- Travel to test sites, vendors, and demos as needed.
- Use first principles physics as a basis for every decision.
- Lead design reviews, run analysis, visit vendors, define and execute hardware test plans.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in end-to-end product development
- 3-5 years of mechanical/electro-mechanical experience in a professional setting.
- BS or MS in a related engineering field (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial Design).
- CAD skills (any platform) and ability to make high quality engineering drawings that meet common industry standards.
- Demonstrated hands-on fabrication skills and ability to root-cause and adapt quickly to design and manufacturing issues.
- High competence with, and fluid use of, engineering first principles.
- Experience with integration of PCBAs and other electronics into a mechanical system.
- Demonstrated leadership, ownership, and autonomy skills (collegiate project teams or professional settings).
- Strong organizational skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in Fusion
360. - Solid understanding and application of ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
- Experience with mechanical designs for EMI constraints and passive/active thermal management.
- Advanced designing skills for CNC machining, composites, sheet metal, injection molding, 3D printing, PCBA integration.
- Experience working closely with electrical engineers, software engineers, manufacturing engineers.
- Hands-on prototyping (machining, shop tools, welding, soldering, board assembly, harnessing)
SALARY RANGE
$80,000 - $95,000 CAD
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
