Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join our Estimating team. This is a critical role that directly supports Allteck’s business development and project win strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable cost estimates for transmission line, distribution, and substation construction projects across Western Canada.
The Estimator works closely with the PMO, proposals, operations, procurement, and executive leadership to develop bids that reflect Allteck’s technical capabilities, cost structure, and commitment to safety. This is a high-impact role for someone who understands the powerline industry from the ground up — and who takes pride in building estimates that win work and sets projects up for success.
Pay: $100,000 – $120,000 annually

Responsibilities
Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for transmission (69 kV to 500 kV), distribution, substation, and underground cable projects from tender documents, drawings, and specificationsPerform quantity take-offs for materials, labour, equipment, and subcontracted scopes of workDevelop detailed construction work plans, crew compositions, and productivity assumptions to support cost modellingIdentify, solicit, and evaluate subcontractor and material supplier quotationsPrepare bid submissions, including pricing schedules, unit rate breakdowns, clarifications, and assumptionsManage multiple concurrent estimates to meet tender deadlines without compromising accuracyConduct thorough risk assessments for each bid, including site conditions, access, environmental considerations, and schedule constraintsWork with subject matter experts to develop project execution strategies that balance competitiveness with margin protectionParticipate in bid review and go/no-go assessments, providing input on project risk, resource availability, and strategic fitAnalyze tender results and competitor pricing to inform future estimating strategyLiaise with clients, owners’ engineers, and project managers during the tender process to clarify scope and resolve technical questionsParticipate in pre-bid site visits and meetings to gather field intelligence that informs the estimateLead internal estimate review meetings and present bids to senior leadership for approvalSupport seamless handover of awarded projects to the operations team, ensuring estimating assumptions are clearly communicated and understoodMaintain and update estimating databases, unit rate libraries, and historical cost benchmarksContribute to the continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and processesTrack tender outcomes and maintain win/loss records to support business development reportingStay current with industry trends, material pricing, labour market conditions, and regulatory changes that affect project costsSkills & Abilities

Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in the electrical utility, transmission, or powerline construction industryDemonstrated experience estimating high-voltage transmission line and/or distribution projects (overhead and/or underground)Strong understanding of powerline construction methods, crew structures, equipment, and productivity ratesProven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, environmental assessments, and contract documentsExceptional analytical and mathematical ability with a strong attention to detailProficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel expertise is essential)Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate estimates under time pressureValid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites for pre-bid visits
