Financial Controller

This is an excellent opportunity for a  newly designated CPA (or recent graduate)  who is ready to step into a broad, hands‑on Controller role and gain meaningful exposure to both the  operational and strategic sides  of the business.

As a member of the  senior leadership team , you will work closely with ownership and management to support financial planning, forecasting, and decision‑making, while also owning the core day‑to‑day accounting operations.

This role offers strong visibility, mentorship, and the chance to truly understand how a growing import and distribution business runs end‑to‑end.

What You’ll Be Doing

Participate as a trusted member of the senior leadership team

Support management with financial forecasting, budgeting, and rolling projections

Prepare variance analysis and explain results in clear, practical terms

Help translate financial data into insights that support better business decisions

Hands‑On Accounting & Cash Management

Manage daily cash flow, bank activity, and reconciliations

Assist with foreign exchange tracking and reporting

Maintain and update cash flow forecasts using Syspro

Oversee AR invoicing, collections, refunds, and specialty billing

Review invoices and support payment processing (EFT, wire, VISA, OFX)

Prepare AR and AP aging reports

Accounting & Month‑End Support

Maintain general ledger accuracy and coding

Review GRN reports and ensure AP is completed on schedule

Support month‑end close and internal reporting

Assist with landed cost tracking and inventory‑related accounting

Payroll, Tax & Compliance

Process bi‑weekly payroll and related reporting

Prepare GST/HST, PST, WCB, EHT, and other statutory filings

Ensure compliance deadlines are met accurately and on time

People & Office Support

Supervise and support one accounting clerk (AP‑focused, developing AR skills)

Lead weekly AR check‑ins and short‑term cash discussions

Assist with light office management tasks (supplies, coffee, office events)

What We’re Looking For

CPA designation (newly designated or recent graduate encouraged to apply)

At least 2 years of hands‑on leadership or supervisory experience

Experience in a smaller, entrepreneurial company environment ( Interest or experience in import/export and distribution

Exposure to landed costs and foreign exchange is a strong asset

Syspro ERP experience highly preferred

Strong Excel skills required;
Power Query and database knowledge an asset

Analytical mindset with the ability to explain what the numbers mean

Clear communicator who is comfortable working with non‑financial stakeholders

Willingness to roll up sleeves and learn in a fully in‑office environment
