Scope

The Community Services Assistant 5 – Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) will play an important role in advancing Surrey's commitment to creating inclusive and equitable programs and services within the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department. This position supports the Healthy Communities team by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accessibility and equity in our programs, services, and events.

Responsibilities

The Community Services Assistant 5 – Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will support programs and services that promote accessibility, equity, and inclusion across our community. Working with internal and external partners, this position will be responsible for a variety of organizational and administrative duties related to the planning, development, promotion, and delivery of EDI-focused initiatives and services.

  • Supporting the planning, delivery, evaluation, and promotion of a diverse range of programs to reduce barriers to participation for all people.
  • Planning, scheduling, evaluating, and providing feedback on a wide range of programs and services.
  • Researching and developing new program ideas.
  • Supervising, training, and supporting staff and volunteers in a variety of functions.
  • Developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with local community members, organizations, and other City staff.
  • Assisting in researching, developing, and writing grant applications.
  • Supporting the marketing and promotion of programs and services.
  • Providing premium customer service and handling questions, concerns, and complaints.
  • Ensuring that the City’s policies and procedures are met during the performance of ongoing duties.
  • Providing information to the public regarding programs and facilities in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Evaluating, measuring and reporting on the success of programs.
  • Performing other administrative duties as required.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with a focus on knowledge and experience on topics related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • Graduated from a recognized university or college level program.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in recreation, community development, or a related field, with a demonstrated understanding of EDI principles.
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification.
  • Valid BC's Driver’s License with a safe driving history.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Applicants under consideration will be required to provide proof of qualifications and consent to a Police Information Check/Vulnerable Sector.

Position is 28 hours a week. Employees may be required to work evenings or weekends as needed.

Other Information

Pay Steps:

  • 1 Year – $32.04 per hour
  • 2 Year – $32.86 per hour
  • 3 Year – $33.83 per hour
