Detailed Overview

Provides physiotherapy services in accordance with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC standards of practice, Fraser Health mission, values, and acute care standard. Works collaboratively with the interprofessional care team, offering assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation, and patient education to achieve optimal health outcomes. Participates in research, special projects, and quality/safety activities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide physiotherapy assessment of the patient's physical status, functional abilities, needs, and goals, using written records, patient interviews, evidence‑based assessment methods, and team consultations.
  • Analyze the patient's needs, establish physiotherapy diagnosis and prognosis, and develop outcome‑focused intervention strategies, including goal setting and evidence‑based practice models.
  • Implement interventions following treatment guidelines and educate patients and caregivers on self‑management, health promotion, and injury/disability prevention.
  • Participate in interprofessional care planning, ensuring effective implementation, updating plans, and collaborating on care/transfer/discharge issues.
  • Evaluate and document intervention effectiveness through ongoing assessment, monitoring patient responses, and modifying interventions to maintain optimal functional independence.
  • Identify and facilitate appropriate referrals for physiotherapy services, prioritizing interventions and connecting patients to community programs.
  • Collaborate with patients and families, encouraging participation and establishing therapeutic relationships that respect autonomy and privacy.
  • Maintain records, including patient files, database entries, and documentation of treatment progress, test results, and service statistics.
  • Delegate tasks to rehabilitation assistants with clear direction and ensure quality patient care.
  • Serve as a physiotherapy resource, providing orientation, in‑services, and patient education to the broader healthcare team.
  • Participate in team/program activities that promote evidence‑based practice and quality and safety improvement, providing recommendations for review.
  • Engage in approved physical therapy research, interprofessional projects, and committees, including professional practice councils and clinical decision support tools.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of physiotherapy theory and practice within a patient and family‑centered model.
    • Knowledge of College of Health and Care Professionals of BC standards and practice guidelines.
    • Knowledge of physiotherapy standardized tests, measures, equipment, and related techniques.
    • Broad knowledge of other health care professions and their roles in patient care.
    • Effective communication with patients, caregivers, rehabilitation assistants, and interdisciplinary team members.
    • Teaching and consultation skills for patients, caregivers, assistants, and other professionals.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Prioritization skills and adaptability to unexpected events.
    • Basic research process and methodology awareness.
    • Ability to operate related equipment and software applications.
