The salary range for this position is CAD $29.16 - $29.16 / hour

Job Summary

We are currently hiring for a Relief Part Time Outpatient Clinic Clerk to join our EEG/EMG, Neurology Clinic at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care & Surgery Centre located in Surrey, B.C. This position is available until approximately December 2026 or until the return of the incumbent.

Detailed Overview

Within the context of a client and family centered care model, reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services or designate, this position performs a variety of duties in support of an outpatient health care services area(s). Schedules and books a variety of outpatient appointments and follow up visits, tests and referrals. Maintains appointment calendars for designated physicians and/or other health care professionals;

adjusts arrangements in accordance with client/patient and facility requirements. Obtains and maintains client/patient information; prepares and maintains charts; enters into computerized system. Prepares and processes medical billings. Types technical and non-technical materials utilizing a variety of computer software applications. Provides reception services; greets clients/patients, directs to appropriate area and/or escorts to exam room; responds to general inquiries. Answers and responds to phone messages or forwards caller to appropriate health care professional or other personnel.

Maintains department equipment, supplies and filing systems. Provides support in a clinical setting; sets up and maintains examination room; takes and/or records vital signs (weight, temperature, pulse, respiration); collects specimens and/or performs routine lab tests such as urine tests for protein and/or glucose.

Responsibilities
  • Schedules and books a variety of outpatient appointments by receiving appointment requests or referrals, making follow up appointments, adjusting arrangements as directed in accordance with patient and facility requirements and assigning to the appropriate time, date and location. Arranges patient diagnostic tests. Maintains appointment calendars by arranging and confirming appointments. Prepares and distributes clinic appointment schedules.
  • Receives patient upon arrival to the clinic and obtains/confirms information required to register the patient; registers patient in the computerized admission/discharge/transfer system and completes related registration documentation. Monitors electronic status board for patient kiosk express check in. Prepares and escorts patients to exam rooms within the clinic.
  • Assembles and maintains patient charts; inputs patient data and information into relevant systems, charts or electronic health record systems. Attaches documents to charts such as laboratory and special examination reports; files charts and forwards to Health Records as required.
  • Takes and/or records patient vital signs such as weight, temperature, pulse, respiration by methods such as electronic scale, ear thermometer, or multi-functional blood pressure cuff and records on patient chart as required.
  • Collects specimens and/or performs routine lab tests such as urine tests for protein and/or glucose by procedures such as using colour coded dip sticks.
  • Telephones and/or transmits test results and other medical information to patients, physicians and others according to established procedures.
  • Prioritizes, processes, coordinates and transcribes physicians'' orders such as requests for x-rays, MRI/CT scans, ultrasounds, and blood work, by performing duties such as completing requisitions and liaising with the appropriate clinic, unit or department to make arrangements in accordance with established procedures.
  • Prepares and processes manual or computerized medical billings for outpatient services. Receives, records and accounts for a variety of payments for client/patient direct billings and/or submits charges to Finance in accordance with established policies and procedures.…
