The Opportunity

The Injury Management Specialist (IMS) will partner with our clients through proactive management of workers' compensation claims. The incumbent will maintain and develop positive client relationships by providing exceptional service with a focus on facilitating and promoting an early and safe return to work. Key accountabilities include coaching employers to refine their claims reporting process, building Stay at/Return to Work programs, influencing Case Managers to progress complex or stalling files, and seeking out cost relief opportunities.

This is a remote role within Canada. We are open to candidates across the country, however you must work within our core business hours (EST).

What to Expect in Your First 3 Months:

Within 30 days:

  • Coordinate introduction to portfolio of employers and review all their active claims to develop a strategy
  • Understand and prioritize the importance of identifying RTW opportunities with ERs early on in claims
  • Familiarize yourself with the Referral process for RTWS and EDMP clients
  • Familiarize yourself with WorkSafeBC’s policies and how to apply these policies to any active and/or incoming claims

Within 60 days

  • Develop relationship with employers to understand their unique challenges and determine if modified duties are available
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the appeals process and templates
  • Maintain a caseload with intent for recovery at work
  • Provide ongoing management of active claims and ensure accountability of all parties in the recovery and RTW process.

Within 90 days:

  • Educate workers and employers on their responsibilities, obligations under the WCB Act and related policies
  • Develop, understand, and demonstrate the value proposition to our clients
  • Develop an understanding of the Experience Rating Assessment and Annual Reports
What You'll Be Doing
  • You will proactively collect and evaluate relevant information and documentation from workplace parties
  • You contact employees within 24 hours of receiving report of Injury Form, explaining the role of DMI, and collects pertinent information
  • You prepare and submits Form 7 to WCB for lost time injuries and medical aid.
  • You communicate with WCB, employer and workers on a regular basis
  • You chart communication in Disability Management System
  • You proactively manage a caseload through early intervention.
  • You assist workers and employers to develop return to work plans
  • You review WCB correspondence and determines next steps
  • You liaise with the provincial Workers’ Compensation Boards
  • You provide claim updates to clients as required
What You Bring to the Team
  • Post-secondary education in human resources, psychology, social work, kinesiology, or a related discipline
  • 2–3 years of experience in customer service or a related field
  • Good understanding of WCB policy and practices is an asset but not required
  • Experience with WSIB is considered an asset
  • Experience in disability management or return to work is an asset but not required
  • Well-developed communication, analytical, and multitasking skills

You will succeed in this role if you are:

  • A Case Management Outcomes Achiever – You consistently manage an optimal caseload of 45–50 files while meeting or exceeding key benchmarks including file durations, resolution rates, and data integrity.
  • A Case Management Quality Champion – You adhere to case management best practices through effective, organized file management, achieving a "Meets" or "Optimal" rating on QA and leader reviews in over 90% of cases, and take prompt action to address any privacy incidents or escalations.
