About the Role

The Research Data and Infrastructure Analyst plays a key role in strengthening the School of Medicine’s Research Division by developing, managing, and optimizing research data systems and analytics. The position ensures secure, high-quality, and reproducible data management while enabling researchers to access and analyze complex datasets for evidence-based insights. By building robust data infrastructure, dashboards, and reporting tools, the role supports research excellence and informed decision-making across the Division.

It also contributes to advancing data governance, improving research efficiency, enhancing cross-institutional collaboration, and strengthening Indigenous data sovereignty practices. Key upcoming initiatives include improving the research data repository, expanding linked dataset analysis, and developing automated performance dashboards.

The ideal candidate is a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional with strong expertise in research data management, biostatistics, or data science. They have advanced technical skills in R, Python, and SQL, and experience working with large-scale or linked administrative datasets in academic or healthcare settings. Success in this role requires strong knowledge of data governance, research methodologies, and best practices in data quality, security, and reproducibility.

The candidate demonstrates excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills, along with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. Experience with Indigenous data sovereignty principles and ethical research practices is essential.

Full Job Description

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Biostatistics or Data Science, Health Sciences, Health Policy or related discipline and five years of related experience within a medical or academic institution or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and analyzing large-scale research datasets, including provincial, national, or multi-institutional administrative data.
  • Strong proficiency in R, Python, and SQL, with experience using open coding frameworks for reproducible research analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of research data governance, data management best practices, and regulatory standards in academic and medical research environments.
  • Experience applying Indigenous data sovereignty principles, including OCAP training and respectful data stewardship practices.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, track milestones, and support complex research initiatives.
