Principal Applied Scientist

Location:

Hybrid – requires 1-2 days on site per week in Walnut Creek, CA;
New York, NY; or Chicago, IL. Candidates must be within commuting distance of one of these locations.

Anticipated End Date:

• Define and drive enterprise artificial intelligence & machine learning strategy aligned with organizational priorities.
• Lead the design, validation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of advanced AI/ML solutions.
• Architect scalable end‑to‑end production systems, including model training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Translate complex business challenges into scalable AI solutions with measurable outcomes.
• Establish technical standards, reusable patterns, and best practices for enterprise AI development and governance.
• Partner with business and technology leaders to influence capability roadmaps and deliver sustainable business value.
• Mentor data scientists, machine learning engineers, researchers, and technical leaders.

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Data Science, Economics, or related quantitative discipline, and a minimum of 10 years experience in machine learning, data science, AI, advanced analytics, or related technical fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience leading AI/ML initiatives from concept through production deployment.
• Experience with Python, machine learning frameworks, cloud-based AI/ML platforms, MLOps, model deployment, monitoring, lifecycle management, and structured and unstructured data systems.

• Experience with generative AI, large language models, reinforcement learning, information retrieval, forecasting, recommender systems, optimization, causal inference, experimentation, or decision intelligence.
• Experience in healthcare, insurance, financial services, life sciences, or other regulated industries.

Salary range: $214,192 to $350,496.
