Dexter is the premier manufacturer and supplier of axles, suspension, brakes, doors, venting products, trailer parts, accessories, and towing components serving the commercial trailer, RV, heavy‑duty, marine, agriculture, and manufactured housing markets.
Job DescriptionThe purpose of the Buyer is to purchase and expedite all production materials including subcontracted items for production, ensuring materials arrive to meet established production schedules. Work closely with Production, Engineering, Customer Service and QA personnel to achieve company objectives of quality, delivery and price.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities
- Schedule and enter orders per MRP, change notices and service order requirements
- Expedite to ensure product arrives on time to meet schedules
- Invite tenders, consult with suppliers and review quotations
- Schedule and enter orders for subcontract sub‑assemblies
- Execute and ensure supplier conformance to engineering change notices
- Interact with Engineering and QA departments regarding tooling, material and blueprint requirements
- Drive parts cost reductions, ensuring minimization of impact on operations
- Interact with Production and Accounting departments to confirm, advise and/or problem solve any issues related to purchasing, delivery, and payments of goods
- Maintain Dax system trade agreements for accurate costing and enter system customs information
- Manage parts credits from suppliers
- Knowledge of sourcing and procurement methods
- Knowledge of Global Sourcing
- ERP/MRP systems knowledge
- Assist with semi‑annual physical inventory
- Familiar with Purchasing software and be computer literate
- Ability to evaluate suppliers
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Ability to negotiate
- Working knowledge of Customs procedures for import/export
- Knowledge of metal processing, tools, steel properties considered an asset
- Ability to read blueprints considered an asset
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently with frequent interruptions
- Ability to work under pressure/stress
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems quickly and effectively
- Reviews production schedules and related information and confers with department supervisors to determine material requirements to identify overdue materials and to track material.
- Other duties as assigned
- Prefer CSCMP, CSCP or CPIM certifications
- Must have 3-5 years Buyer level experience
Post‑Secondary education in Purchasing, Supply Chain or related field or equivalent combination of work experience.
