Job Summary:
The Housekeeper at Phoenix Society performs heavy to light cleaning duties to ensure that the suites and common areas in the facility are in a clean and orderly condition, working in tandem with other janitorial staff and volunteers.
Key responsibilities include:
cleaning floors; shampooing rugs; washing walls and windows; removing garbage; laundry; cleaning appliances; and notifying management when any supplies or repairs are required.

Custodial Services
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuumingStrip, seal, finish and polish floors as requiredGather and empty all garbage, recycling and compost binsService, clean and supply restroomsClean and polish furniture, fixtures and appliancesClean windows, glass partitions and mirrorsDust furniture, walls, machines and equipmentSteam-clean and/or shampoo carpets or rugsMake beds and keep linens in stock as needed;Performs laundry duties such as washing linens and clothing.Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipmentPerform other duties as requestedMaintenance Services
Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after cleaning and checking electrical appliances to ensure that hazards are not createdNotify managers concerning the need for major repairs, minor renovations, or building operating systems serviceRequisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance dutiesMaintain and organize cleaning equipment, materials and suppliesPerform other duties as requiredQualifications:
Academic:
Successful completion of Grade 121 to 3 years of related experience providing custodial and/or housekeeping servicesRelated post-secondary and WHMIS training is an assetValid Class 5 driver’s licence is requiredSatisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is requiredSatisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is requiredSatisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is requiredFirst Aid certification with CPR is requiredSkills & Knowledge:
English: fluent and able to effectively communicate professionally, both orally and writtenDemonstrated experience in custodial services and/or housekeepingAbility to perform heavy to light cleaning duties including heavy lifting, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods of timeBasic computer skills including Microsoft Office.Strong organizational and time management skills with a high attention to detailStrong interpersonal skillsAbility to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performanceAbility to work independently and contribute to team settingsFlexibility to work during evenings and weekends, and be on call, as neededExcellent ability to work under pressure in a diverse, fast-paced, and dynamic environmentExperience in providing a person centered and community minded environment with marginalized people is an asset.Competencies:
