Position OverviewThe Operations Manager - Fabrication oversees all manufacturing activities related to copper fabrication, bending, drilling, punching, finishing and sheet metal powder coating. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient operations, leading supervisors, leads and fabricators to meet daily and long-term performance goals while coordinating closely with Engineering, Quality, and Planning. This position requires 100% in-office presence in our Surrey offices and reports to the Director of Operations, Fabrication.
Key Responsibilities- Manage daily busbar fabrication operations across shifts and facilities to achieve SQDC targets.
- Lead Supervisors in workforce management, capacity planning, and cross-training.
- Achieve throughput, scrap reduction, utilization, and cost targets through performance monitoring.
- Drive root‑cause analysis for quality defects, downtime events, and rework with Engineering and Maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with fabrication standards, electrical requirements, and critical quality specifications.
- Collaborate with Fabrication Engineering on tooling improvements, CNC program optimization, and automation readiness.
- Coordinate with Planning to ensure accurate capacity modeling, schedule attainment, and prioritization across buildings.
- Implement Lean practices, material flow improvements, and cycle-time reduction initiatives.
- Maintain execution of 5S, standard work, visual controls, and daily management routines.
- Provide performance reporting, highlight risks, and escalate issues to the Director of Fabrication.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Technology, or related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in busbar, copper fabrication, or precision metal manufacturing.
- Proven leadership experience managing supervisors and technicians.
- Strong understanding of CNC bending, drilling, punching, insulation, and material-flow principles.
- Proven knowledge of pretreatment chemistry, coating application, curing processes, and quality control (asset).
- Experience with ERP systems (Infor Syte Line preferred).
- Proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent analytical tools (asset).
- Lean/CI experience and structured problem-solving capability.
- Familiarity with OEE, MES, or industrial automation systems (asset).
Compensation will consider internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered. Compensation range: CAD 123,000 – 152,000.
