THE ROLEOur recruitment team is working with a growing Canadian food manufacturer in Surrey, seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to work daytime shifts from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday
, with on-call availability and overtime as needed. Banked hours are available. The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee a 24-hour running plant. This role is 70% administrative (scheduling the maintenance team, maintenance planning, vendor relationships, material administration, performance reviews, and generating maintenance reports) and 30% on the floor (working with Maintenance Technicians and the Production team to ensure operational efficiency). - Supervise, train, schedule, and support a team of maintenance technicians.
- Conduct regular performance check-ins, coach team members, and support skill development.
- Coordinate daily work assignments, prioritize urgent repairs, and ensure proper shift handovers.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of production equipment, packaging machinery, conveyors, compressors, fryers, refrigeration systems, and facility infrastructure.
- Ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime.
- Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure reliability and extend equipment life.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, equipment manuals, and service records.
- Food safety & regulatory compliance (GMP, HACCP, and company policies).
- Support sanitation teams with equipment access and proper lockout/tagout procedures.
- Ensure maintenance tools, spare parts, and work areas meet hygiene and cross-contamination prevention standards.
- Enforce safety policies, including LOTO, confined space entry, machine guarding, and WHMIS/GHS compliance.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions, including assessment of PPE use and safe work procedures.
- Coordinate with production and sanitation teams to schedule maintenance during planned downtime.
- Manage spare parts inventory, order supplies, and keep critical parts stocked.
- Assist with capital projects, new equipment installations, and process improvements.
- Develop and maintain clear data-driven maintenance KPI’s that strengthen equipment reliability.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and enhance plant reliability.
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives within the maintenance department.
- 3 to 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment.
- 1 to 3+ years of leadership/supervisory experience (lead hand, supervisor, or equivalent).
- Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with PLCs, automation systems, and CMMS software.
- Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and food safety compliance.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, cold/wet/noisy food production environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical, safety, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Working knowledge of PLC and computerized machinery.
- Intermediate MS Office Skills (One Drive, Office 365, Excel, Word, Outlook).
- $90,000 to $100,000+ annually, depending on experience.
