Position: SNAP Urban Forest Outreach Team Leader

Location:

Term:
May 1st – August 21st, 2026

Hours:

37.5 hours/week, Tuesday – Saturday (schedule fluctuates regularly: max 7.5 hours per day, however, shifts could start as early as 6:30am or end as late as 9:30pm)

Compensation: $26.05/hour

Position Description

Reach out to Surrey’s community to communicate the importance of Surrey’s urban forests and natural areas. Host booths in parks and at community events, develop educational programs for audiences ranging from preschoolers to adults, and create engaging online content about environmental stewardship in parks. You will report to the SNAP Program Manager and supervise a small team in this hybrid, field and office-based, position.

Duties
  • Assist with the supervision, training, and evaluation of team members
  • Take the lead on scheduling and planning out the teams’ calendar and daily tasks as needed
  • Deliver SNAP’s key messages to the public through programming and social media
  • Collaborate with youth and community volunteers through stewardship events
  • Maintain accurate daily records, track project deliverables, and provide updates to supervisor
  • Ensure work is completed in a safe manner and complete other related duties as required
Desired Qualifications
  • Post-secondary study in a related field such as education, urban forestry or environmental studies
  • Experience in video editing and/or development of promotional materials
  • Fluency in additional languages, particularly Punjabi, are an asset
  • Experience in a communications or environmental education role
  • Supervisory and/or leadership experience, strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of ecological principles, ability to identify local native and invasive plants and common shade trees
  • Willingness and ability to perform physical work outdoors in all weather conditions, and ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Strong work ethic and initiative, able to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends, and have full availability for the duration of the work-term (4 months)
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license (or equivalent) with a safe driving history, and willingness to submit a driver’s abstract
  • Valid Level 1 First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of employment)
  • Completion of a Police Information Check will be required as a condition of employment
Canada Summer Jobs Criteria
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada and BC
