Job SummaryWe are currently hiring for a Relief Full Time Registered Nurse, Perinatal to join our maternity team at Surrey Memorial Hospital, located in Surrey, B.C. This position is available until approximately July 2026 or until the return of the incumbent.

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively with the inter‑professional care team, the Registered Nurse, Perinatal provides direct patient care to childbearing patients and their families during the intra‑, postpartum, and high‑risk ante‑partum periods by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care to patients in a perinatal clinical unit.
Responsibilities- Conduct a comprehensive nursing assessment of the patient and unborn baby on admission and at regular intervals; allocate the patient to an appropriate care area within the Maternal Program, assess risk factors, and determine appropriate nursing interventions.
- Collaborate with patients and their families/support persons, physicians, and members of the inter‑professional care team to develop, implement, and modify patient and unborn baby care plans; establish a therapeutic relationship demonstrating empathy, trust, and respect.
- Participate in the care and discharge planning process; update care plans, intervene as appropriate, and collaborate with the inter‑professional care team to ensure comprehensive care delivery.
- Coordinate nursing care for the patient and make referrals to the inter‑professional care team according to established protocols.
- Teach patients and families/support persons health promotion regarding pregnancy, birth experience, postpartum, newborn care, and parenting; assess learning needs and provide information and demonstrations.
- Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families/support persons, and initiate referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies.
- Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
- Participate in at‑service education, identify learning goals, and maintain current clinical competence.
- Serve as a preceptor or mentor to guide the clinical experience of new nursing staff and students.
- Provide feedback to the manager on the effectiveness of patient care programs and policies.
- Participate in quality improvement and risk management activities; identify patient care issues and provide recommendations to the multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in program and professional committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.
- Participate in research and special projects in collaboration with the inter‑professional team; collect and interpret data as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Graduate from an approved School of Nursing; current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). One (1) year of recent, related clinical perinatal nursing experience in the designated clinical area, completion of post‑graduate basic coursework and/or certification in perinatal nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Current Basic Rescuer (Level
C) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) Certificates.
- Complete initial and ongoing patient assessment; apply maternal/fetal/newborn theory and expertise to provide nursing care through appropriate technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions.
