Job Summary

Clinical Nurse Specialty - Inpatient Surgical Services. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the Learning Strategies and Professional Practice team and support Surgical In-patient Services in collaboration with the Surgical Network in Fraser Health. As highly trained experts, CNSs elevate the standard of care by integrating advanced clinical expertise, leadership, and innovation.

Detailed Overview

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health, including service delivery centered around patients/clients/residents and families. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) supports expert nursing care to patients/residents/clients/families and functions as a clinical leader in a specialty area within a designated health service area, regional network, or designated clinical program as determined by the Executive Director, Clinical Operations. Provides leadership and focuses on improving client outcomes and quality of care by advancing nursing practice in the area of specialty through advanced practice and evidence-based practices;

provides professional oversight and guidance to clinical nurse educators (CNE) and clinical resource nurses (CRN) and participates in the evaluation of clinical performance.

Responsibilities
  • Exemplifies and promotes excellence in nursing practice in a specialty area.
  • Maintain practice currency and excellence through involvement with selected client groups.
  • Provide expert nursing consultation for clients or groups of clients and facilitate clinical learning experiences for nurses.
  • Influence nursing practice by participating in client care advocacy to improve practice and quality of care.
  • Act as a role model for professional practice, integrating clinical practice, consultation, collaboration, leadership, education, research, and quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with other health care disciplines to develop effective client care programs.
  • Participate in provincial/national groups related to the specialty; coordinate expert consultation for select small numbers of clients.
  • Provide consultation to primary care providers, community groups, and other service providers; work with Directors, managers, and educators to deliver care and evaluate outcomes.
  • Lead in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice within the specialty; use and develop evidence-based innovations to improve care quality.
  • Provide leadership to nurses and the interdisciplinary team to identify learning needs and determine educational priorities and programs.
  • Support nursing and health services research to advance clinical knowledge and practice; disseminate findings and implement changes in practice.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to redesign systems and processes to improve client/population outcomes within Fraser Health's strategic plan.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
Master's degree in Nursing (other graduate degrees may be considered depending on area of specialty). Five (5) years of recent nursing experience with three (3) years in a related clinical area. Same practice qualifications as a staff nurse in the area required. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
