Detailed OverviewThe Leader, Clinical Nurse Specialist provides practice leadership to the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) that serve throughout Fraser Health, acknowledging that CNSs play a key role consistent with the mission, vision and strategic directions of the programs and organization. CNSs represent a significant asset for the organization to accelerate clinical program innovation and excellence of nursing practice and to foster a compassionate quality practice environment.
This role works to optimize and sustain the CNS role across programs, supports Fraser Health leadership in advanced practice nursing and ensures maximum impact of these resources on patient care and health service delivery based on current evidence. The Leader, Clinical Nurse Specialist promotes the recruitment, retention and career development of exceptional nursing leaders through academic and clinical mentorship in alignment with the BC CNS Policy Recommendations.
Performs Clinical Nurse Specialist duties.
- In collaboration with key partners, develop and establish a CNS community of practice and networks that enhance the sharing of knowledge, the dissemination of CNS led local, national and international achievements, empower CNSs to work as change agents within their area of specialty, promote research and knowledge translation competencies, and ensure discussions pertain to effective practice development and excellence in nursing practice.
- Develop and sustain a standardized orientation and professional development programs for CNSs to ensure strong preparation and support that enables all CNSs to maximize their impact and professional satisfaction and growth as practice leaders.
- Develop and implement processes and mechanisms that assess practice and recommend and establish standardized indicators to measure outcomes such as clinician-reported outcomes, patient-reported experience/outcomes, cost savings, access to care, and implementation/uptake of innovations. Provide clinical practice feedback and help integrate these assessments in CNS practice.
- Liaise with agencies and organizations that impact CNSs, including other health authorities, to address common issues and identify emerging trends/issues of practice in relation to CNSs.
- Identify and recommend strategies that attract and retain CNSs and enable Fraser Health to maximize the potential of the role.
- Collaborate with CNSs, NPs, allied health leaders, and Learning Strategies and Professional Practice to promote the integration of the CNS role in organization-wide clinical learning and practice priorities.
- Leverage CNS and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) collective expertise and help expand their practices across common domains of practice and support all advanced practice nurses to achieve the highest level of impact; ensure continuity of communication among key partners.
