We currently have an opportunity for a Part Time RN, Interventional Care and Recovery to join our Medical Imaging team at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Education, Training and Experience
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of a recognized high acuity specialty nursing certificate
  • one (1) year of recent related high acuity experience
  • or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice, the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively with the inter‑professional care team in the provision of person‑centered care, provides and coordinates pre‑ and post‑procedure nursing care in the Interventional Radiology unit through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Responsibilities
  • Provides individualized nursing care to patients with varying complexities before and after interventional procedures, ensuring comfort and safety. Conducts health assessments, monitors vital signs, and adjusts care plans as needed. Involves patients and families in care decisions, and promptly responds to significant or life‑threatening changes, evaluating the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Assists physicians during examinations in the pre‑ and post‑Medical Imaging area, and facilitates procedural sedation, general anesthesia (where applicable), and airway management. Monitors patient condition and ensures adherence to critical care safety protocols as needed. Builds therapeutic relationships with patients and families during pre‑procedure preparation, offering emotional support throughout. Verifies identity, checks consent, gathers relevant information, and provides clear explanations. Advocates for informed decision making and educates on procedures and post‑care.
  • Anticipates, prepares for, and responds to unexpected critical situations during and/or post‑procedures such as cardiac arrest by initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation and/or administering appropriate medication.
  • Organizes priorities in response to constantly fluctuating workload volumes and patient treatment requirements in consultation with team members. Assesses patient for discharge in accordance with established discharge criteria.
