Job Summary

Registered Nurse to join our Medicine team at Surrey Memorial Hospital located in Surrey, B.C. Provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, performing, and evaluating nursing care for patients in acute inpatient areas in accordance with BCCNM standards.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and collect information from a variety of sources, make nursing diagnoses, and determine appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to develop care plans and encourage family participation.
  • Participate in care and discharge planning, ensuring effective implementation and coordination with the interprofessional team.
  • Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks, and refer to interprofessional team per protocols.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional team members including physicians, LPNs, patient care coordinators, and educators to resolve issues and adjust care plans.
  • Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance to support self‑care.
  • Plan and discuss referrals with patients and families in collaboration with team.
  • Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions, outcomes, and referrals per practice standards.
  • Participate in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement activities, identifying patient care issues and recommending changes.
  • Attend in‑services and other educational programs, maintain current clinical competence.
  • Serve as preceptor or mentor to new staff and students.
  • Provide feedback to manager regarding effectiveness of patient care programs and policies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with BCCNM.

    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and interprofessional team.
    • Promote person‑centered care with empathy and cultural sensitivity.

    • Use evidence‑based information and research to support nursing decisions.
