Salary: The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 – $59.52 per hour.

Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the mission and values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care to patients in acute inpatient areas.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and collect information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment. Make a nursing diagnosis and determine whether the condition can be improved or resolved by an appropriate nursing intervention. Plan, perform, and evaluate nursing interventions.
  • Collaborate with patients and their families/caregivers in developing the care plan and encourage family participation in the development, implementation, and ongoing modification of the plan. Establish a therapeutic relationship by demonstrating empathy, trust, respect, and advocating for patients’ rights to privacy, dignity, and access to information.
  • Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission, ensuring the care plan is established and implemented effectively, updating the plan, and collaborating with the interprofessional team and Patient Care Coordinator on discharge issues.
  • Coordinate nursing care for the patient; set priorities, assign and delegate tasks to support staff, and make referrals to the interprofessional team according to established protocols and practice standards.
  • Collaborate with members of the interprofessional team—physicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Patient Care Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Educators, and other health professionals—to identify and resolve issues and adjust care plans as required.
  • Teach patients and families/caregivers about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance to help patients accomplish their health goals. Assess learning needs, provide information, and demonstrate care activities to support self‑care and the discharge plan.
  • Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families/caregivers, and in collaboration with the interprofessional team, initiate referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies.
  • Document assessments, nursing diagnosis, observations, interventions, responses, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
  • Participate on nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned or agreed with the Manager.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement activities by identifying patient care issues, collecting data, and making recommendations for corrective action and changes to practices, procedures, or protocols.
