The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 per hour.

Job Summary

We are currently hiring for a Relief Part Time Registered Nurse to join our Renal team at Newton Community Dialysis Unit located in Surrey, B.C. This position is available until approximately October 2026 or until the return of the incumbent.

This role requires post‑graduate specialty education in Nephrology. If you have not completed a post‑graduate program in Nephrology (Hemodialysis‑Renal) but are interested, please apply and indicate your interest in pursuing specialty education. Fraser Health offers sponsorship for RNs/LPNs to gain your specialty education through an in‑house program affiliated with BC Renal.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients. The role may be requested to perform duties at various sites within Fraser Health.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive nursing assessment of the patient on admission and at regular intervals, making a nursing diagnosis and determining appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborate with patients, families/caregivers, physicians and the inter‑professional care team to develop, implement and modify the care plan, ensuring patient autonomy and privacy.
  • Participate in the care and discharge planning process, working with the inter‑professional team to ensure effective implementation.
  • Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks to support staff and make referrals to the inter‑professional team as needed.
  • Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration and maintenance, assessing learning needs and providing information to support self‑care.
  • Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families, initiating referrals to appropriate health‑care or community agencies.
  • Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions and outcomes according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
  • Attend in‑services and other educational programmes, maintaining current clinical competence.
  • Act as a preceptor or mentor for new nursing staff and students, promoting family‑centred care and best‑practice principles.
  • Participate in professional committees, care conferences and risk‑management activities, providing input on quality improvement and safety.
  • Assist in research and special projects, collecting and interpreting data as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM.

Two (2) years of recent, related clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area and completion of post‑graduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain intravenous therapy.
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and apply nursing theory to provide therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to recognize acuity changes.
  • Ability to use evidence‑based information to support nursing decisions.
  • Effective communication with patients, families, the public, medical staff and the inter‑professional team using verbal, written and electronic means.
