About the Role

Our Property Tax group, within the Indirect Tax practice, is a leader in the global commercial real estate (CRE) industry. Our dedicated team focuses on helping clients optimize cash flow and mitigate risk by addressing the intricacies of property assessment and taxation. In this position you will support clients on both regional and national projects, as well as value‑added tax projects related to property assessment and taxation.

You will critically review and evaluate property tax appeal positions, offer informed recommendations, and adeptly manage the appeal process in accordance with the firm’s policies, standards, and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage property tax valuation appeals and conduct in‑depth market research to support valuation positions, ensuring accurate and favorable outcomes for clients.
  • Mentor and develop staff, guiding team members through complex valuation projects with expert advice and insights.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships by providing meaningful value, strategic advice, and impactful reporting, thereby building trust and ongoing engagement.
  • Evaluate properties and provide property tax consulting services, working with stakeholders throughout the property tax lifecycle – from advisory during assessment notices to representation at assessment tribunal hearings.
  • Oversee annual property tax budgeting for clients, ensuring timely payments, accurate forecasting, and proactive management of filing deadlines to maintain compliance and avoid penalties.
  • Engage in networking and business development activities, securing client referrals and identifying new service opportunities to grow our practice’s reach.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Prior experience with a focus on property assessment valuation practices, property tax consulting, and advisory services.
  • Post‑secondary degree (or equivalent work experience) in real property valuation, property assessment, real estate, urban studies, economics, finance, or law.
  • Completion of a Real Property Assessment Certificate or equivalent professional designation (MIMA, AACI, CAE, MRICS, FRICS) is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated people‑management and leadership skills, with the ability to coach team members, build strong relationships, and foster collaboration.
  • Analytical acumen for researching complex valuation and tax issues, with a proven ability to conduct thorough valuations of real property and interpret data to support appeal arguments.
  • Skilled in negotiation and dispute resolution, effectively leading settlement discussions to facilitate the resolution of valuation disputes with assessment authorities.
  • Strong research skills and familiarity with standard valuation methodologies and taxation principles, enabling you to craft well‑supported arguments and strategies.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build new business and enhance operational efficiency, proactively seeking ways to improve processes and expand services.
  • Collaborative approach, working in concert with team members across the country.
  • PwC Canada is committed to cultivating an inclusive, hybrid work environment. Exact expectations for your team can be discussed with your interviewer.
