ScopeThe City of Surrey is seeking several customer-focused Officers who are interested in career development and the ability to influence positive change in our community. The Community Patrol Officer 2 (CPO
2) plays a critical role in extending bylaw enforcement services into late‑evening and overnight hours, ensuring consistent, city-wide coverage seven days a week.
Operating from 4:30 PM to 3:00 AM and following a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern, this position addresses service gaps after standard patrol hours and enhances responsiveness to community concerns.
CPO 2s are empowered to conduct investigative work on private property providing enhanced operational support to Bylaw Services Officers and Bylaw Enforcement Officers. The role combines enforcement, investigation, supervision, and proactive patrol, with a strong emphasis on public safety, professionalism, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
Responsibilities- Bylaw Enforcement & Response: respond to evening and overnight complaints (primarily noise, parking, and nuisance), conduct in office assessments, issue warnings where appropriate, and document incidents to support enforcement actions.
- Investigations & Evidence Collection: conduct authorized investigations on private property, collecting and documenting evidence (e.g., observations, photos, statements) to support bylaw enforcement files and legal proceedings.
- Parking Enforcement: monitor and enforce parking regulations through proactive patrols and complaint response, including pay station compliance and follow‑up on violations.
- Patrols & Public Engagement: conduct proactive and complaint‑based patrols of parks, beaches, and public areas, engaging with the public to promote compliance and escalating serious issues as required.
- Supervision & Operational Support: provide oversight to CPO 1 staff during shifts, coordinate response and deployment, and ensure operational equipment is assigned, maintained, and functioning.
- Administrative & Reporting Duties: prepare shift reports, maintain accurate records, and ensure effective file management and handover of ongoing or priority matters.
- Proactive Duties: perform targeted patrols, proactive enforcement, and administrative tasks to support continuous service delivery and operational readiness.
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by two courses in a related discipline.
- Minimum two years of related experience dealing with the public and training in inspectional and regulatory work.
- A valid driver's license and safe driving record.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Previous supervisory or lead‑hand experience.
- Experience working with enforcement technologies (e.g., handheld ticketing devices, decibel meters).
- Familiarity with local government operations and partnerships with police or emergency services.

- Step 1 – $41.75
- Step 2 (6 Months) – $43.49
- Step 3 (18 Months) – $45.20
- Step 4 (30 Months) – $46.89
Shift times can vary so flexibility will be necessary based on operational need.
