Job Summary

The Residential Support Worker at Phoenix Society is part of the integrated services team. In line with the purpose of facilitating capacity building of participants to maximize community reintegration and supporting residents who are transitioning out of Federal Correctional Institutions, the Residential Support Worker is accountable for client supervision and monitoring, assessing public risk and client needs, client support, and community building with Corrections Service Canada, local police and other external partnerships.

Responsibilities
  • Support clients in adhering to community guidelines set out in CSC conditions and Program Agreement conditions.
  • Assist clients with their community reintegration plans, maintaining accurate logs and documentation as required by the Society and Corrections Service Canada.
  • Build therapeutic relationships to support clients in their life‑skills and goals.
  • Support proper reporting/documentation and collaborate on breaches of conditions, including suspected alcohol or drug use, late curfew, unsafe behaviour, emergency medical situations, hospital requests, power failures, fire or other emergencies requiring staff supervision or consultation.
  • Perform administrative tasks including photocopying, case documentation, database entry, filing, and answering phones.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the office; wipe down desktops and countertops and take out garbage as required.
  • Carry out other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary diploma (2–3 years) in Criminology, counselling, social work, community services, or equivalent education/experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience working with marginalized populations, substance use services, mental health, corrections, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of offender behaviour dynamics and ability to assess needs and risks.
  • Skills to counsel offenders, form effective relationships, and gain trust.
  • Ability to use authority in supervision and intervene effectively in crisis situations.
  • Capability to assist offenders in identifying and solving practical problems for successful community reintegration.
  • Skills in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and respect for diversity.
  • Completion of police fingerprinting and enhanced security reliability clearance.
  • Completion of Employee Immunization Record.
  • First Aid Level 1 with CPR.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management systems.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment (telephone system, fax machine, photocopier, printer, etc.).
