Job Description Position Purpose summary:
Assist in the operations of collecting and processing donations in the Food Recovery Program, practicing good stewardship of donated resources. The student will provide service to local agencies, sort incoming products, and assist in Family Services operations.
Accountabilities (Responsibilities) Clean and repackage recovered food.
Pick up and process donated resources by unloading, sorting, placing, and loading donated items.
Work with clients in food distribution.
Contribute to the safety of staff and clients (e.g., clear fire exits, remove obstacles, clean spills and maintain facility cleanliness).
Take responsibility for the accurate completion of all client intake and recording into the system.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Eligibility – Canada Summer Jobs Program Individuals who require employer‑specific work authorization (e.g., international students on study permits) are not eligible under this program. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements, including age and legal status criteria.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications Completion of high school diploma.
Up to three (3) months prior experience, including life skills.
Heavy lifting: able to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly without assistance.
Valid Full Class 5 Driver’s License.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Cooperative teamwork skills.
Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Good listening, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Self‑motivated and disciplined.
Ability to work with agencies, peers, staff, and volunteers.
Willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks.
Working Conditions 35 hours per week.
Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13, with a maximum of $27.76. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
