Position: CPO 18R - Community Integration Specialist

CPO 18R - Community Integration Specialist - (124106)

Overview

The Community Integration Services Branch is a dedicated team of specialists supporting B.C.'s most underserved individuals. In partnership with the Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association, this role helps connect people to services, navigate government systems, and manage intensive needs including housing and care. The position is 80‑85% community based with in‑reach and outreach approaches and is located in Surrey, BC.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intensive case management and expedited intakes for Indigenous clients experiencing poverty, homelessness, mental health or substance‑use challenges.
  • Coordinate housing inspections and facilitate access to provincial care‑housing sites.
  • Build meaningful relationships with community partners, service providers, and Indigenous practitioners.
  • Apply trauma‑informed and culturally relevant practices to support client integration and independence.
  • Maintain accurate client records, progress reports, and ensure compliance with service delivery standards.

Qualifications

  • Self‑identified Indigenous applicant (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) – required.
  • Secondary school graduation and 3 years related experience, or an Evergreen Certificate and 4 years related experience, or equivalent education‑experience combination.
  • Experience providing services to Indigenous people living in poverty, homelessness, mental health or substance‑use challenges, or people with disabilities.

Preferred Experience

  • Community‑based outreach, shelter, healthcare, social work, or similar roles.
  • Working with local Indigenous practices.
  • Experience in BC Friendship Centres or with multiple service providers.
  • Direct or indirect lived experience of addiction, poverty, homelessness, or mental health challenges.
  • Trauma‑informed approach to client service.

Benefits and Conditions

  • Full‑time on‑site position in Surrey; no allowance for relocation.
  • Flexible work environment with a scheduled day off every two weeks.
  • Enhanced security screening required.
  • Physical work requirements in Surrey; not eligible for assignment elsewhere in the province.
  • Employees must be physically located in BC at the time of employment.
