Position: Casual Residence Worker (Ivy Light Community Living)

Role Purpose

This position will provide casework and clinical support to residents of Connective’s programs in order to enhance their quality of life, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, and to maintain the goals of the counseling and/or rehabilitative plans.

Status and Classification

Unionized. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

Hours
  • Mornings 08:00 - 16:00
  • Evenings 16:00 - 00:00
  • Overnights 00:00 - 08:00

Casual employees must be available for at least 21 shifts per month, including seven overnight shifts. Full‑time applicants or full‑time students should be available for 15 shifts per month, including five overnight shifts.

Reporting and Working Relationships
  • Reports to the Program Manager of the facility or their designate
  • Participates actively in house, staff, and staff/resident meetings
  • Participates as a member of the Connective staff team
  • Liaises with outside professionals from other agencies or government bodies as required
Key Accountabilities Programs
  • Plans, develops and delivers harm reduction and cultural safety practices
  • Interviews clients to prepare care plans and background information with confidentiality
  • Assumes a primary or key worker role with assigned resident(s) under Program Manager guidance
  • Provides input to the Program Manager and/or other staff on the development of appropriate care plans to achieve the resident’s objectives
  • Works toward the implementation of the care plan established for each resident
  • Develops interpersonal therapeutic relationships with psychiatric residents
  • Connects clients with health and psychiatric services
  • Uses professional judgement to ascertain and apply appropriate intervention techniques with residents in crisis
  • Assists with implementation of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) therapeutic support under the direction of a Behaviour Interventionist
  • Meets with each resident on a routine basis to discuss progress and plan future interventions
  • Assists the Program Manager and/or other staff in identifying potential problems and reports any difficulties
  • Participates in social, recreational, employment, educational, and other programs as appropriate to assist the resident’s case/care plan
  • Contributes to the evaluation of the resident’s progress and makes written and oral reports to the staff team
  • Maintains client files including statements of goals, care plans, summaries, case notes, reviews, and closing reports
  • Develops and maintains an in‑house resource area containing current information/brochures of programs and services for residents
  • Ensures residents comply with the terms of their residency and understand the rules of the facility
  • Acts as an on‑site advocate for each resident
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families
  • Supports residents toward integration and healthy functioning within the community
  • Acts as a positive role model for clients, providing life skills training and behaviour management as appropriate
  • Dispenses and ensures taking of medications as required
  • Provides transportation and assists residents to attend appointments as needed
  • Plans, develops and delivers in‑house programs with other residence staff to address residents’ needs
