Job Summary:
The Residential Support Worker at Phoenix Society is a member of the integrated services team. In line with the overall purpose of facilitating the capacity building of participants to maximize their community reintegration and supporting residents who are transitioning out of Federal Correctional Institutions, the Residential Support Worker is accountable for: client supervision and monitoring, assessing public risk and client needs, client support, community building with Corrections Service Canada, local police and other external partnerships.
Responsibilities:
Client Services
Support the clients in adhering to the community guidelines set out in both their CSC conditions and Program Agreement conditionsSupport clients with their community reintegration plans by maintaining accurate logging and documentation as required by the Society and Corrections Service Canada.Build a therapeutic relationship to support the client in their life skills and goalsSupport proper reporting/documentation and collaboration for: breach of conditions which include but are not limited to: suspected alcohol or drug use; clients who late for curfew and/or do not return home; escalating, unsafe behaviour; emergency medical situations; client requests to go to the hospital; and power failures, fire, or other emergency conditions which require staff supervision or consultationRespond to emergencies within a moments notice, via rapid response to all areas of the CRF building, as per established protocolsOnce trained through CSC and Management/Case Managers at Rising Sun, Male- identifying staff must support Urinary Analysis requirement such as scheduling appointment with client, ensuring client follows established protocols, labelling and signing, and arranges pick up with specified receiversDelivering food to residents of Rising Sun and to push food cart around the various CRF floorsHouse walks for 3-6 times per shift on all the floors of the CRF, ensuring safety and presence of residentsAs directed, provides medication assistance to residents, including meeting residents at designated off-property locations (up to 100 meters), in accordance with organizational policies, safety procedures, and applicable legislationAdministration
Support administrative tasks including photocopying; case documentation; database entry; filing; and answering phonesMaintain cleanliness and organization of the office. Wipe down desktops and countertops and take out garbage as requiredPack rooms, lift and organize boxes during room packs of residents, weighing between 20-30 poundsPerform other duties as requiredQualifications:
Grade 12Certificate in Community Social ServiceRecent, related experience of one year working with marginalized populations, substance use services, mental health, corrections, etcThe ability to understand the dynamics of offender behaviour and assess their needs and risksThe skills to counsel offenders, form effective relationships and gain trustThe skills to understand the use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situationsThe ability to assist offenders in identifying and solving practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the communityThe ability to assist offenders in identifying and obtaining community services required for their successful reintegrationSkills in communicating effectively, both orally and in writingThe ability to demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversitySatisfactory completion of police fingerprinting and enhanced security reliability clearanceSatisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record is requiredSatisfactory completion of Nonviolent crisis intervention (NVCI) certificationFirst Aid Level 1 with CPR is requiredSkills & Knowledge:
