Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Regular Full-Time Victim Services Case Worker to join our Community Partnerships Support Section, withinthe Community Policing Bureau. Reporting to the Community Partnerships Manager,the incumbent, under the supervision of the manager, provides direct support services to crime and trauma victims and witnesses. Duties include providing crisis intervention support and ongoing follow up to victims, family member sand witnesses in immediate aftermath of crime or trauma.

The position also assists with emergency responses, referrals, court support and case updates.

The Victim Services Case Worker works with police, fire personnel, and community agencies to ensure victims’ safety and access to resources.

Considerable independence of judgment is required to be exercised within established guidelines and according to policies and procedures. The incumbent will be required to attend crime scenes and court. May be exposed to bodily fluids and highly stressful situations.

The anticipated schedule for this position is 40 hours/week, non-standard workweek.

Please note, the hours are subjectto change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

• Responds to emergencies and critical incident sat crime scenes, hospitals, homes, or community locations.
• Coordinates emergency transportation to transition house, residence etc. and accompanies sexual assault victims to hospitals for follow up.
• Assists members and emergency personnel by supporting victims and families during next-of-kin notifications and other sensitive situations.
• In consultation with investigating officers,Crown Counsel and external agencies, updates clients on case progress, court outcomes, and related processes.
• Provides clients with referrals and information about available community and government resources/support services including but not limited to home and personal safety, non-criminal protection orders,and replacement of stolen or lost documents.
• Assesses client’s safety, develops safety plans,and ensures ongoing monitoring and follow-up where appropriate.
• Assists clients with crime victim assistance program applications and victim impact statements and other required documents.
• Conducts court orientations, court accompaniment, courthouse tours, with victims and witnesses, including emergency court accompaniment and Crown Counsel meetings.
• Establishes and maintains appropriate client file field notes, computerized documentation, and maintaining diary dates.
• Prepares correspondence, reports, and information summaries related to the work.
• Provides feedback on processes and procedures related to the work.
• Provides or coordinates short-term emergency childcare as needed.
• Engages in community outreach and conducts presentations to promote awareness of victim services and available supports.
