Job SummaryThe Senior Software Architect designs and evolves scalable, data‑intensive systems that support a multi‑business unit B2B e‑commerce platform. This is a hands‑on role combining architectural leadership with active involvement in system design, implementation, and technical problem solving. Working closely with engineering teams, product management, and business stakeholders, the Senior Software Architect translates business and non‑functional requirements into practical, maintainable solutions and helps guide teams toward sound technical decisions that support long‑term platform growth.
Duties & Responsibilities- Design and implement scalable, highly available architectures for core B2B e‑commerce systems.
- Contribute directly to codebases through design spikes, prototypes, and complex feature or infrastructure work.
- Define system architecture across domains such as catalog, pricing, orders, customers, invoicing, and integrations.
- Make architectural decisions on system structure, service boundaries, and data ownership, and ensure they are effectively implemented.
- Design and evolve data architectures with a focus on performance, scalability, consistency, and reliability.
- Work closely with engineering teams to review designs, guide implementation, and resolve complex technical issues.
- Ensure systems are built for extensibility, change, and long‑term maintainability.
- Partner with product leadership to align technical solutions with business priorities.
- Identify, manage, and reduce technical debt through hands‑on collaboration with teams.
- Evaluate and introduce technologies pragmatically, with an emphasis on operational stability and business value.
- Document architectures, patterns, and key technical decisions as living artifacts.
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, including significant hands‑on architecture and design responsibility.
- Proven experience building and evolving scalable, high‑throughput, data‑intensive systems.
- Strong hands‑on experience with B2B e‑commerce or complex transactional platforms.
- Deep understanding of software design, distributed systems, and data architecture.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical, code‑level execution.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.
- Broad technical depth with a track record of making sound engineering trade‑offs.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines while working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Pricing engines, order management, or large‑scale catalog systems.
- Systems operating under regulatory or compliance constraints.
- Integration with ERP, partner, or payment platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
- Postgraduate qualifications would be an asset
Work Location: In‑office environment that is currently 3 days per week
City: Surrey
Type: Full-time, Temporary - 1 year (possibility to transition to a full‑time role)
Salary: 93, CAD
This range reflects the minimum and maximum target payable for the base salary of new hires across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside this range and is dependent on various factors.
