Sr. Software Engineer - Full Stack (.NET, React) | Canada
The Sr. Software Development Engineer uses specialized depth and experience to oversee the writing and modification of complex software application programs. This role leads work groups responsible for software development, design, and quality testing. The position creates detailed specifications or designs, conducts quality assurance reviews, mentors others, and maintains the programs by coding, testing, and debugging. The candidate must interact directly with IT vendor partners, business clients, and internal stakeholders, solving complex problems and frequently collaborating with senior vendor partner contacts.
This role serves as the prime technical contact on projects.
Job Duties
- Partner with multiple vendors to create estimates and delivery plans for projects or programs across an application family.
- Ensure quality of technology delivery for multiple vendors' technology solutions for concurrent projects within an application family.
- Provide technology leadership and delivery accountability for solutions for multiple concurrent projects (e.g., Claims, C&PS, or CS&DW).
- Lead a large or complex unit, setting direction to mature the technology and manage technical debt.
- Identify and implement process enhancements related to the application area.
- Implement actions to increase UBC and vendor partner knowledge on the team.
- Serve as SME for components of the team.
- Partner with architects to set direction for maturing, retiring, or adding technology components in the UBC environment.
- Provide technical guidance to projects/programs for complex components of multiple technology suites.
- Lead efforts to develop standard practices, components, and guidelines for use of complex technology components.
- Lead teams to resolve urgent and high‑production incidents.
- Lead actions to determine root causes of problems and drive resolution.
- Work on special projects as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- 8–12 years of relevant experience, preferably 2–3 years at UBC, or a Master’s degree and 6–10 years of relevant experience.
- Strong proficiency in .NET and C#.
- Proficiency in SQL and Azure.
- Complete understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field.
- Ability to provide and implement technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
- Solutions that are innovative, thorough, practical and consistent with organizational objectives.
- Ability to lead discussions with all levels of the organization and provide balanced information of an idea or communication of an issue, whether written or verbal.
- Familiarity with the healthcare or PBM industry.
- Experience working in a vendor partner model.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate project deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and meet project deadlines.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and applications.
- Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment and make independent decisions.
