Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated forklift operator responsible for off-loading and on-loading goods from containers using a propane SDCB forklift. The role involves operating the forklift approximately 80% of the shift, requiring quick but safe operation around tight quarters. The operator will handle various freight, which can be heavy and differently shaped, using paper shipping documents and transitioning to complex digital shipping software soon.

Responsibilities

• Off-load and on-load goods from containers using a propane SDCB forklift.
• Operate forklift for approximately 80% of the shift, ensuring safe operations in tight quarters.
• Handle various types of freight, ensuring correct loading and unloading based on shipping documents.
• Adapt to using complex digital shipping software within the next few months.
• Manage shipments ranging from small to large sizes.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year experience operating a SDCB forklift in a 3PL or LTL environment.
• Valid forklift certification.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
• Reliable transportation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-5 years experience in LTL is preferred.
• Leadership experience is beneficial.
• Familiarity with Truckmate software is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Comfortable with shop talk and possesses good English communication skills.

Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced, operating 24 hours based on truck schedules, with a multicultural and independent team culture. The facility is busy with more than 50 dock doors, moving diverse products from fridges to tires. Approximately 50 operators work per shift, and the dress code requires steel-toed boots. Shifts run from Saturday to Tuesday, 5:00am to 3:00pm, with overtime available after 10 hours.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Surrey, BC.

The pay range for this position is $24.75 - $25.75/hr.
