Position Overview

Coordinates and administers the full lifecycle of FortisBC fleet vehicles and equipment while ensuring regulatory adherence, cost efficiency, and effective service delivery to operational users.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates acquisition, maintenance, and disposition of FortisBC fleet vehicles and equipment including automobiles, trucks, construction equipment, and trailers.
  • Orders and receives delivery of new vehicles, arranges for up-fitting, and may present sketches for layout based on user requirements.
  • Coordinates and liaises with managers, fleet management companies, end‑users, and upfitters on outfitting projects.
  • Monitors commissioning and disposal of vehicles and equipment, and reviews purchase and upfit invoices.
  • Selects and orders components based on approved specifications, provides information on available options, and escalates issues.
  • Assembles catalogues of specifications to create light‑duty vehicle specifications.
  • Presents information to FortisBC employees and suppliers; communicates workflow processes.
  • Visually inspects and signs off on the quality of work; escalates issues to management.
  • Coordinates installation and removal of fleet‑specific requirements and provides assistance on fleet‑related issues.
  • Assigns vehicles to specific locations and coordinates licensing and registration requirements.
  • Reviews GVW ratings for compliance with industry regulations and attends to enquiries from ICBC.
  • Ensures drivers of appropriate vehicles have annual Commercial Vehicle Inspection Permits completed by expiry date.
  • Arranges compliance with federal and provincial licensing requirements; maintains vehicle graphics standards.
  • Coordinates vehicle replacements by analyzing odometer readings and age, and incorporates costs into annual budget.
  • Reconciles vehicle capital costs between fleet management numbers and invoices quarterly.
  • Investigates vehicle and equipment problems; works with fleet service providers on solutions.
  • Visits plants and workshops to review service quality, conduct pre‑production meetings, and resolve schedule or parts issues.
  • Compiles repair or replacement recommendations, examines unit history and mileage.
  • Arranges temporary replacements, reviews rental requests, and manages rental vehicle logistics.
  • Responds to general enquiries and complaints relating to fleet vehicles.
  • Maintains and updates fleet database and vehicle records; prepares status reports.
  • Produces reports on costs, forecasts, statistics, driver or vehicle information for management review.
  • Checks fuel card purchases daily for discrepancies, fraud, or questionable purchases; acts on fraud charges immediately.
  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties, which do not affect the rating of the job.
Requirements
  • High school graduation.
  • Automotive Mechanical Course, Light Truck Essentials LT-2 course or equivalent; basic knowledge of all types of vehicle makes and models.
  • Understanding of ICBC/Transport Canada rules and regulations.
  • Valid BC driver’s license.
  • Three (3) years of directly recent related, relevant work experience in a utility fleet or fleet management environment.
  • Ability to work independently without direct assistance from the supervisor.
  • Courteous, professional manner in dealing with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure during peak workload situations.
  • Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems operation, environment, and peripherals.
  • Sound working knowledge of applications software in use in the department (AVL software, MS Excel, Outlook, fleet management web‑based software).
