Payroll Lead

Portfolio are looking for a confident, technically strong payroll professional to take the lead on two established payrolls. You'll be the go‑to expert for month‑end, year‑end, compliance, and process accuracy, while also shaping how the payroll function evolves in the future.

This is a hands‑on role with breadth across payroll operations, reconciliation, benefits, pensions, HMRC liaison, and collaboration with accounts. You'll also work closely with the current Payroll Administrator.

What you'll be responsible for

Managing two monthly payrolls and ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance for c.1,200 employees.
Monthly payroll activities including reconciliation, journals, and reporting.
Pension & HMRC administration ensuring contributions, submissions, and statutory requirements are met.
Benefits administration which include cycle to work, season ticket loans, and supporting the Payroll Admin on wider benefits.
Annual processes for P60s, P11

Ds, PSA (completed monthly), ASR and bonus payroll activities.
Collaboration with Group Accounts ensuring journals and financial data are accurate and aligned.
Working with the Payroll Administrator and shaping future division of duties.

This role would suit an experienced Payroll professional who enjoys technical ownership and continuously improving processes. Demonstrating confidence with month end and year end payroll cycles and ready to take a step up into a lead role.

What you'll bring

Strong technical payroll knowledge across monthly and annual cycles.
Confidence managing multiple payrolls and handling complex queries.

Experience with benefits, pensions, and HMRC processes.
