English Teacher SEN School (SEMH Needs)
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our specialist SEN school supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic educator who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve both academically and personally.
The Role
You will deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons to students across KS3 and KS4 within a supportive and therapeutic learning environment. Many students may present with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours and interrupted educational experiences. The successful candidate will be able to build strong relationships, inspire confidence and create a positive classroom culture where students feel safe, valued and motivated to learn.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver creative, differentiated English lessons tailored to individual learning needs
- Support students in developing literacy, communication and analytical skills
- Foster positive engagement and rebuild confidence in education
- Create a structured, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment
- Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to behaviour management
- Monitor progress and contribute towards EHCP targets and reviews
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral teams and external professionals
- Support students emotional wellbeing alongside academic progress
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent
- Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 level
- Experience working within SEN, SEMH or alternative provision settings desirable
- Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
- Patient, resilient and adaptable approach
- Passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve success
- Small class sizes with excellent classroom support
