Building Engineering Leader - Manufacturing Facility

Salary/Package - £95,000 - £100,000 Basic + Extensive Benefits Package

Location - Surrey/European Travel Occasionally

Permanent Position - Hybrid Role ( 1 day on UK site )

If you're a senior FM engineering professional who's built your career running complex, high-stakes technical operations on major FM contracts and you're looking for a role where you genuinely set the agenda this opportunity could be for you.

The Role

Our client is a leading global FM provider with a long-standing, high-profile contract delivering engineering and technical services across multiple pharmaceutical EMEA estates. As Engineering Lead for the account, you'll be the most senior technical person on one of the most demanding and prestigious contracts in the sector, spanning 40 locations across EMEA.

This isn't a hands-on engineering role. It's a leadership position where you will be part technical authority, part strategic planner, part client director. You'll set engineering standards across all sites, lead a team of Technical Leads and Subject Matter Experts, and make sure the entire operation runs safely, compliantly, and cost-effectively.

When something serious happens like a major system failure, a compliance finding, a regulatory inspection, you will be the person who steps in.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Setting and enforcing technical standards across a multi-site, multi-region pharmaceutical estate spanning 40 EMEA locations
Leading and developing a federated team of specialist Technical Leads and SMEs
Acting as the senior point of contact for the customer's stakeholders on all things technical - reporting, escalations, and strategic planning
Owning the CAPEX budget at account level: building multi-year investment plans, writing business cases, and deciding where money gets spent on asset lifecycle and replacement
Managing sites remotely across EMEA, leveraging AI-driven work order management to maintain performance and compliance at scale
Leading the implementation of new technology and digital tools to drive operational efficiencies across the account
Ensuring planned maintenance, statutory compliance, and audit obligations are met across every site
Overseeing energy and sustainability delivery across the account
Translating high-level strategy into practical, executable plans on the ground

The Environment

These sites operate to some of the most stringent regulatory standards in the world including GMP environments, regular audits, zero tolerance for compliance failure. You'll need to be comfortable in that world. Ideally you'll come from pharma or life sciences directly, or from another highly regulated estate such as data centres, semiconductors, defence, or critical national infrastructure.

Critically, this role requires experience managing multi-site estates across multiple countries within EMEA. The scale here is significant - 40 locations and the ability to lead remotely, maintain standards without being physically present, and drive performance through technology and strong team structures is essential.

What We're Looking For

A proven track record in a senior FM engineering leadership role on a large, complex FM or technical services contract
Demonstrable experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams across multiple sites and multiple countries within EMEA
Confident managing sites remotely and comfortable utilising AI tools for work order management and operational oversight
A genuine interest in implementing new technology to drive efficiencies, not just maintaining the status quo
Strong CAPEX planning and asset lifecycle management capability
Confident communicator at senior client and stakeholder level
Familiarity with regulated environments. This could be pharma or life sciences experience which will be a strong advantage
Background with a major FM contractor would be advantageous

Why It's Worth Considering

This is a rare opportunity to operate at the very top of a flagship global account with genuine influence over technical strategy and investment at enterprise scale. The surrey location offers significant flexibility; if the right candidate needs it, one day per week on site is a genuine option, which makes this accessible to senior professionals across a wider geography.

The salary, the scope, and the seniority of the role are all commensurate with the calibre of candidate we're looking for. If you've been waiting for something that actually matches your ambition, this is it.
