Overview
A leading global organisation is seeking a VAT Manager to join their Corporate Tax and VAT team based in Surrey. You will be part of a supportive, collaborative group that values knowledge sharing and responsible business practices. The role involves ensuring the company remains compliant with all VAT obligations while working closely with Finance, Logistics, Marketing and Legal.
What you’ll do- Collaborate with Finance, Logistics, Marketing, and Legal teams to ensure correct VAT treatments are applied to all business transactions and provide clear guidance on complex issues.
- Manage relationships with external VAT advisers, seeking specialist advice when needed and monitoring costs against budgets.
- Handle queries from HMRC regarding VAT-related matters, maintaining proactive, regular communications.
- Provide technical support to the VAT analyst and other colleagues requiring VAT assistance.
- Monitor VAT opportunities and risks, proposing practical solutions and delivering them within appropriate time frames.
- Prepare and review UK and Irish VAT returns with the support of the VAT analyst, ensuring accuracy and timely submissions.
- Explain VAT implications to non-tax specialists to support understanding and decision-making.
- Ensure all aspects of VAT compliance are effectively managed to reduce risk and drive process improvements where possible.
- Contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous development in indirect tax matters.
Your proven experience as a VAT Manager or in a similar role will enable you to excel. You should have deep expertise in indirect tax management (including cross-border supplies) and qualifications such as ACA, ACCA or CTA. A solid understanding of UK VAT legislation is essential, with the ability to communicate clearly with both finance professionals and non-specialists. You should be dependable in meeting deadlines and comfortable juggling competing priorities.

- Ability to build strong relationships across teams and explain complex VAT implications in an accessible way.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to work independently while remaining a reliable team member.
- ACA / ACCA / CTA qualification or significant experience in indirect tax management within large organisations.
- Extensive experience handling indirect tax implications related to selling goods, including cross-border supplies, in a commercial context.
- Strong knowledge of UK VAT legislation and compliance issues affecting multinational businesses.
- Familiarity with accountancy principles as they relate to VAT in corporate environments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication across stakeholders.
