Role Overview £28k - £29k
The Import Bookings Clerk plays a key role in supporting the Import team by coordinating with overseas agents and UK customers to ensure import shipments are set up accurately and efficiently following quotation acceptance. The role is responsible for arranging the initial shipment bookings before handing them over to the Import Operations team for end-to-end processing.
In addition to booking coordination, the role provides UK Import Customs support to the Road freight team by assisting with daily customs clearances. As experience and knowledge develop, there will be opportunities to expand into supporting Sea Freight and Air Freight import operations, building on the communication, booking, and customs expertise gained within the role.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate with overseas agents and UK customers to arrange and confirm import shipment bookings.
* Ensure all booking information is accurate, complete, and ready for handover to the Import Operations team.
* Liaise with internal departments to ensure smooth transition of shipments into operational processing.
* Provide daily UK import customs clearance support for the Road freight team.
* Maintain accurate shipment records and documentation in company systems.
* Communicate proactively with customers, overseas partners, and colleagues regarding shipment status and requirements.
* Ensure compliance with company procedures and UK import customs regulations.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining high levels of customer service.
* Develop knowledge of customs processes, sea freight, and air freight operations to provide wider operational support as the role progresses.
Skills & Experience
* Strong communication and customer service skills.
* Excellent organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively.
* Confident working with internal teams, customers, and overseas partners.
* Good IT skills and the ability to learn freight forwarding and customs systems.
* Previous experience in freight forwarding, logistics, customs, or administration is advantageous but not essential.
* Willingness to learn and develop within import operations across Road, Sea, and Air Freight
