Position: Band 5 Paediatric Nurse - A&E (Locum)

Job Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Registered Paediatric Nurses to join our dynamic Accident & Emergency (A&E) team based in Surrey. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, family-centred care to infants, children, and young people presenting with acute and emergency conditions.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that the child s physical, emotional, and developmental needs are met at all times.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care to children and young people attending A&E.

  • Perform triage assessments, recognising and prioritising patients according to clinical need.

  • Assist in stabilisation and resuscitation of critically ill or injured children alongside the emergency team.

  • Administer medications and treatments in line with Trust policies and NMC standards.

  • Support and communicate effectively with families and carers, providing reassurance and information.

  • Work collaboratively with doctors, advanced nurse practitioners, play specialists, and other allied health professionals.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the child s health records.

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe environment and compliance with infection prevention and control standards.

  • Participate in clinical audits, training, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.

  • Undertake regular clinical supervision and participate in professional development activities.

  • Uphold Trust values and ensure safeguarding of children and vulnerable families at all times.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Registered Children s Nurse (RSCN/RN (Child with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

  • Evidence of post-registration experience in an acute or paediatric setting (including placements).

  • Excellent clinical assessment and communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a busy, high-pressure emergency environment.

  • Commitment to continuing professional development.

  • Previous experience in Paediatric A&E or Paediatric Assessment Unit.

  • PILS (Paediatric Immediate Life Support) or APLS training.

  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Children procedures.

  • Mentorship or practice assessor qualification.
