This year we have 2 School Nurse SCPHN student posts available. The course is delivered exclusively through Oxford Brookes University and leads to a Master's level qualification.
About the CourseThe SCPHN programme at Oxford Brookes University is a Master's level course (PG Dip / MSc) and is available on both a full‑time and part‑time basis. The course combines online distance learning with supervised practice placements:
- Online distance learning - 2 days per week (theoretical and academic component)
- Practice placement - 3 days per week (clinical learning and hands‑on experience)
- The 50/50 split of theory and practice ensures you develop both academic and clinical skills
- Upon completion you will be registered as a SCPHN and eligible to apply for Band 6 School Nurse role
To be considered for a student post you must meet the following criteria:
- Registered with the NMC as a Nurse or Midwife
- UK resident
- Demonstrate either: achievement of an undergraduate degree OR completion of a Diploma in Nursing
- A full UK driving licence is required
- Completion of a recent Level 6 (or above) module
As a Student SCPHN School Nurse you will play a vital role in ensuring that every child gets the best possible start in life, developing the skills to lead the Healthy Child Programme.
- Support school‑age children and young people to achieve their health and wellbeing potential
- Apply theoretical knowledge to practice placements to develop high‑quality, evidence‑based assessment and care
- Safeguard and protect children, young people and vulnerable adults
- Travel across Surrey to meet both educational and clinical requirements of the course
