The Sales Counter Associate reflects the image of Payless Building Supply. This roleplays a key part in delivering the best customer service possible while listening to the customer’s needs and providing them with materials or advice. We want energetic individuals who can work in a fast-paced environment, be active on your feet, and help keep the retail store orderly and running smoothly.

Position is full-time in our Susanville location. Our store is open Monday through Saturday.

Salary is $20-$24per hour, DOE

• Previous customer service and retail experience in a fast-paced environment a plus
• Attention to detail and accuracy required
• Knowledge of building supply products and lumber a plus
• Warehouse experience a plus
• Experience ordering from outside vendors
• Exceptional communication skills
• Have the ability to learn new skills quickly and work efficiently

• Provide exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Knowledge of store products and materials on hand
• Experience ordering from outside vendors
• Generate sales by understanding customer project needs
• Coordinate deliveries of materials to customer
• Price merchandise, bins or displays and re-stock shelves
• Keep store and warehouse area clean and orderly
• Build displays for sales, promotions or events
• Report price discrepancies to General Manager
• Other duties as assigned by the General Manager

• Experience in building material and lumber industry preferred
• Advanced level math skills required
• Knowledge of building codes and appropriate materials preferred
• Exceptional communication skills
• Patient in stressful situations (customer complaints, heavy counter traffic)
• Able to communicate by phone, email or other electronic device

• Able to lift
  50 lbs
• Extended periods of standing, moderate walking, occasional sitting
• Able to reach, bend, stoop, kneel and manual dexterity to grasp
• Able to walk on uneven surfaces
• Exposure to dust in the outside yard environment
• Extreme climate conditions (summer heat/winter cold)
