About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and resilient Food Teacher to deliver engaging and practical Food Technology and hospitality learning to pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This role is ideal for a teacher who is committed to inclusive education, can inspire pupils through hands-on learning, and understands how food education can develop life skills, independence, and employability.

You will work with pupils who may be at risk of exclusion, have been permanently excluded, or are unable to attend mainstream education.

What You’ll Do Teaching & Learning
  • Plan and deliver creative, practical Food Technology lessons tailored to individual needs
  • Design engaging learning experiences that build confidence, independence, and real‑life skills
  • Embed literacy, numeracy, and communication skills into food-based learning
  • Differentiate lessons to support a wide range of abilities and learning styles
Student Support & Behaviour
  • Create a safe, structured kitchen and classroom environment
  • Use positive behaviour strategies and relational approaches to support engagement
  • Act as a trusted adult, supporting pupils’ wellbeing and development
Assessment & Progress
  • Track and monitor pupil progress using Individual Learning Plans (ILPs/IEPs)
  • Adapt teaching based on assessment and behaviour data
  • Work closely with families and external professionals to support outcomes
What We’re Looking For Essential
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
  • Experience teaching Food Technology, Hospitality, or Design Technology
  • Ability to engage and motivate vulnerable or disengaged learners
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
Desirable
  • Experience working with SEND / SEMH pupils
  • Knowledge of cooking for independence and employability
  • Understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, and trauma-informed practice
